MAIB Interim Report On Bayesian Sinking
THE MARINE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION BRANCH HAS ISSUED ITS OFFICIAL INTERIM REPORT ON THE SINKING OF THE YACHT BAYESIAN, WITH THE LOSS OF SEVEN LIVES
Well, the long and short of it is there are no surprises here. We believe FYBBO correctly assessed the likely causal factors (and BTW defended the crew’s actions, as they were reported) at the time.
But for the record, this is the link to the MAIB post that presents the release of the British agency’s “interim” report":
What is conspicuously missing from this “interim” report is any serious reference to why/how the vessel managed to pass classification standards in the first place, given that the Stability Booklet acknowledged some some potentially serious safety concerns. Perhaps, that will be included in the final report — if we ever see one.
It will be a shame if the lessons of the Bayesian disaster do not result in some serious revision of classification society plans review and approval procedures.
