Right on point Phil. Having sailed in this class of yacht I was frequently troubled by the concept of the sunken cockpits which if ever they became flooded would ( thought) be problematic

Sorry, @nowholecloth, but that is not true. AVS has to be additionally defined. In the case of Beyesian, the referenced ABS "Stability Booklet" indicates it occurs (with swing ballast keel raised) at 73-degress angle of heel -- PROVIDED THAT THE ENGINE ROOM VENTS ARE CLOSED AND SEALED AGAINST DOWN-FLOODING. However,i the vents are left open, disastrous downflooding can occur at an angle of heel as low as 25-degrees. And by the way, there is no precisely established classification rule that governs absolutely, but rather ABS appears to have approved the plans subject to the provisions listed in the "Notes to Master" in the Stability Book. Thank you for reading and commenting. Cheers!

The “Notes to Master” were extensive and INCLUDED in the stability booklet. IMO, there was a lot of negotiated compromise involved.
